This seven day safari is for those
who don’t have much time to spend in Kenya
and cannot do a 14 or 21 day safari. We shall
visit the Rrift Valley Lakes (a naturalist’s
dream due to the hundreds of bird and mammal
species in the area) and the Masai Mara (with
its great wildlife density and cultural roots).
For these reasons, this is a very popular route
but with a difference offering a much more active
experience than viewing from a four wheel drive
vehicle. Likewise, it is not very demanding
as we only have short walking sections.

Itinerary:
Day
1- Nairobi, Lake Bogoria (some walking)
Early morning we'll drive into
the Rift Valley and via Nakuru town to the sisal
plantations of Mogotio (sisal is a natural fibre
plant and is used especially for string or rope).
We continue past these plantations andl get
a chance to walk approximately 5 – 6 kms
around the south end of Lake Bogoria (a small,
shallow soda lake). Our crew will have gone
ahead to set up camp on the lake shore. Dinner
will be lakeside beneath the stars.
Day
2- Lake Bogoria, Lake Nakuru (walking)
We wake up early (0500 HRS) for breakfast
and start walking along the east side of Lake
Bogoria. We leave as early as possible to avoid
the intensity of the hot afternoon. The scenery
is spectacular as the lake is nestled against
the eastern wall of the rift valley. Many flamingos
inhabit this soda lake as well as several bird
species, inhabitants of both water and land.
Sometimes we may see zebra, gerenuk, kudu, various
antelope and we keep a sharp eye out for buffalo.
Soon after lunch we will meet our car at the
north end of the lake and be transferred to
Lake Baringo where our camp would be already
set up. Here you can enjoy cool showers and
relax with a cup of tea or cold beer.
Day
3- Lake Baringo, Lake Nakuru
Wake up for a morning boat ride on Lake Baringo
to see some of the rich bird life as well as
hippo and crocodile before breakfast. We then
drive back to Lake Nakuru National Park.
This small park has much more to it than the
lake – large areas of Acacia forests,
grassland and bush which support hundreds of
bird and animal species. In the afternoon we
will drive around the lake viewing the diverse
wildlife here. Warthogs are common as well as
waterbucks and buffaloes by the waters edge.
There is a very good possibility of seeing rhino
and elusive cats such as lion and leopard.
Day
4- Lake Nakuru, Masai Mara
Drive to Masai Mara via Narok, the capital
town of Masai land. You may be lucky to see
some game whilst driving towards our camp. Our
comfortable campsite is situated on the edge
of the Talek River and the game reserve.
Day
5- Masai Mara
All day spent game viewing in the famous reserve.
In terms of the likelihood of seeing game, some
times of the year are more rewarding than others
– particularly during the wildebeest migration
(July – September) where the park is packed
with wildlife.
Day
6- Masai Mara (walking)
Early departure from camp on foot with our
Masai guides. We will walk until 2.00pm (approx
time) through rolling, hilly plains, sometimes
meeting Masai herdsmen, sometimes seeing wildlife.
We will meet our crew again having set up camp
in a recluse spot in the bush. There will be
sufficient time to cleanse ourselves from the
dust and relax. Dinner will be around the warm
glare of a campfire, cocooned by the sounds
of the African night.
Day
7- Masai Mara, Nairobi (some walking)
After early breakfast we walk out of camp and
will be able to walk until 11.00am. Around this
time, we will meet up with the crew and 4 x
4 vehicle to take us back to Nairobi to your
hotel of choice or the airport to catch your
flight out.
Please
Note:
- The gear and crew are transferred by vehicle
from camp to camp each day on some itineraries
(Wild Plains and Tropical Moorlands), unless
otherwise specified. However, if specially
arranged, donkeys or camels can be used depending
on area. Some itineraries require donkeys
or camels in which case the four-wheel-drive
would meet us on the last leg of the trip
(Mystic Nomads and Jade Sea Journey).
- If you are coming from overseas we can arrange
transfers from and to the airport, hotel bookings,
beach holidays, balloon safaris, camping and
lodge safaris, overland safaris and any other
activities you would like to participate in
whilst in Kenya. Please enquire with our Sales
team.
- Clients should arrange to have good weatherproof
clothing, a warm sleeping bag, a water bottle,
good walking shoes and a comfortable pair
of shoes to wear in camp.
- Although these itineraries follow a specific
routine, there may be need to alter certain
days due to the pace of walking or even interference
by weather conditions.
- For Jade Sea Journey only: Due to the harsh
terrain and heat, this itinerary would be
best done during the rainy/”winter”
season (March to May, June, July and October
to November) as it is much cooler, otherwise,if
done any other time of the year, walking would
start before dawn to avoid walking in the
afternoon when temperatures are high.
